¿Es efectiva la acupuntura como terapia complementaria para el dolor crónico lumbar?

[eng] Introduction: Lower back pain is a common symptom that affects 80% of the global population at some point in their life. In Spain, it is the most common cause of work disability in people under 50 years old. The use of drugs for the treatment of lower back pain can lead to addiction and the appearance of adverse effects. Acupuncture is an alternative for the treatment of chronic lower back pain that has been proven to be effective. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of acupuncture as a complementary therapy for chronic low back pain. Methods: A bibliographic search was conducted in the Pubmed and EBSCOhost databases for studies related to the effectiveness of acupuncture as a complementary therapy for chronic low back pain. Results: A total of 150 articles were obtained, of which 22 articles were selected. Conclusions: The combination of acupuncture with other treatments has been shown to be effective for chronic low back pain, although there are discrepancies in comparison with simulated acupuncture. The effectiveness of acupuncture is not solely due to the placement of needles in specific points, but also to the manipulation of the skin and the attention the patient pays to the puncture point. There are different types of acupuncture that have shown to be effective, but more research is needed to understand their mechanism of action. It is important to include acupuncture as a treatment option to reduce the use of medications such as NSAIDs and opioids.

[spa] Introducción: El dolor lumbar es un síntoma común que afecta al 80% de la población mundial en algún momento de su vida. En España, es la causa más común de incapacidad laboral en menores de 50 años. El uso de fármacos para el tratamiento del dolor lumbar puede llevar a la adicción y la aparición de efectos adversos. La acupuntura es una alternativa para el tratamiento del dolor lumbar crónico que ha demostrado ser efectiva. Objetivo: Conocer la eficacia de la acupuntura como terapia complementaria en el dolor crónico lumbar. Método: Se realizó una búsqueda bibliográfica, en las bases de datos Pubmed y EBSCOhost de estudios relacionados con la efectividad de la acupuntura como terapia complementaria para el dolor lumbar crónico. Resultados: Se obtuvo un total de 150 artículos de los cuales se seleccionaron 22 artículos. Conclusiones: La combinación de acupuntura con otros tratamientos ha demostrado ser eficaz para el dolor lumbar crónico, aunque hay discrepancias en comparación con la acupuntura simulada. La efectividad de la acupuntura no se debe solo a la colocación de las agujas en puntos específicos, sino de la propia manipulación de la piel y de la atención que ponga el paciente al punto de punción. Existen diferentes tipos de acupuntura que han demostrado ser efectivos, pero se necesita más investigación para comprender su mecanismo de acción. Es importante incluir la acupuntura como opción de tratamiento para reducir el uso de medicamentos como AINES y opioides.
