The Nobility of the Heart: Comparative study between the Creature in Frankenstein and Quasimodo in Notre Dame

Abstract

[eng] Frankenstein or the Modern Prometheus, the most successful novel written by Mary Shelley was published in 1818 in England and some years later, in 1831, Victor Hugo’s Notre Dame was published in France. As products of the Romanticism, the English and the French, they have certain common traits. This essay aims to analyze the similarities between the two novels in terms of their origins, themes characters and trace a common pattern that interconnects them by analyzing their cultural and philosophical background.
