[eng] Female genital mutilation is the most widespread and performed practice within the group of harmful traditional customs. According to the WHO, FGM comprehends all those procedures consisting of the partial or total resection of the female external genitalia, as well as other injuries of the same for non-medical reasons. This practice supposes the violation girls and Women’s human rights.Nursing in the health system is the key piece for the care and abolition of this practice from the capacity and knowledge of the culture in which it is practiced.A bibliographic review of the topic was carried out by searching three databases between the years 2011-2019 both in English and Spanish. Out of a total of 112 selected articles, only 21were included together with the incorporation of 5 documents obtainedby manual or prospective search.The different articles reviewed show interesting data on the different favorable arguments towards the MFG and its opposition to the MDGs, the educational and interventionist role of the nurse in women and men, and the degree of knowledge, as well as that of training the profession nurse.
