dc.description.abstract [eng] Leptin is a hormone responsible for regulating energetic homeostasis and appetite at hypothalamic level, in addition to being able to regulate gene expression related to lipid metabolism and glucose in peripheral tissues. Leptin is known to be present in breast milk and a positive association between the presence of this hormone and various metabolic diseases has been found. It has been associated with both short-term and long-term health benefits of infants in relation to the recent discovery of their role in metabolic programming and prevention of metabolic diseases in adulthood. Given the importance of their presence in breast milk, there is a need to find a protocol for the purification of leptin from an animal source for the supplementation of formula milks. Currently there is contradictory and diverse information regarding the characteristics of this protein, which makes it difficult to purify and isolate it for the supplementation of infant formulas. ca
dc.description.abstract [spa] La leptina es una hormona responsable de regular la homeostasis energética y el apetito a nivel hipotalámico, además de poder regular la expresión génica relacionada con el metabolismo de los lípidos y la glucosa en tejidos periféricos. Se sabe que la leptina está presente en la leche materna y se ha encontrado una asociación positiva entre la presencia de esta hormona y varias enfermedades metabólicas. Se ha asociado con beneficios para la salud de los lactantes a corto y largo plazo en relación con el reciente descubrimiento de su papel en la programación metabólica y la prevención de enfermedades metabólicas en la edad adulta. Actualmente existe información contradictoria y diversa sobre las características de esta proteína, lo que dificulta su purificación y aislamiento para la suplementación de fórmulas infantiles. Sin embargo, dada la importancia de su presencia en la leche materna, es necesario encontrar un protocolo para la purificación de leptina de una fuente animal para la suplementación de leches de fórmula. ca
