Decisión y experiencia de viaje del colectivo LGTB+ de Mallorca

Abstract

[eng] The following study investigates the travel decisions and experience of the LGBT+ community of the island of Mallorca. A total of 259 respondents offered insight to their travel behaviors to be compared through a statistical analysis. The used tools are the chi square test and Fisher’s exact test for the statistical significance and the phi coefficient for clinical importance. The results have shown a statistical relation between being LGBT+ and certain travel habits. Avoiding countries with lack of protection or criminalization of the LGBT+ culture, desire to travel to queer friendly countries and investigating the destinations before deciding on them are some of the trends of the investigated community. Furthermore, the travel experience is disclosed as a constant situation of adaptive behavior in which the LGBT+ traveler modifies their persona information, receives inappropriate comments, and decides to avoid areas and situations, such as baths or being openly themselves, for security reasons.

[spa] El siguiente estudio investiga las decisiones y experiencias de viaje de la comunidad LGBT + de la isla de Mallorca. Un total de 259 encuestados ofrecieron información sobre su comportamiento de viaje para compararlo mediante un análisis estadístico. Las herramientas utilizadas son la prueba de chi cuadrado y la prueba exacta de Fisher para la significación estadística y el coeficiente phi para la importancia clínica. Los resultados han mostrado una relación estadística entre ser LGBT + y ciertos hábitos de viaje. Evitar países con desprotección o criminalización de la cultura LGBT +, ganas de viajar a países seguros para el colectivo e investigar los destinos antes de decidirse por ellos son algunas de las tendencias de la comunidad investigada. Además, la experiencia de viaje se revela como una situación constante de comportamiento adaptativo en la que el viajero LGBT + modifica la información sobre su persona, recibe comentarios inapropiados y decide evitar áreas y situaciones, como baños o ser abiertamente uno mismo, por razones de seguridad.
