The fight against tourist seasonality

Abstract

[eng] Tourism is one of the dominant economic activities in the world. The main tourist activity is sun and beach tourism. This activity is totally dependent on the weather, which is the main culprit of tourism seasonality. The topic chosen for this Final Degree Project is the study of different public policies and several promotions that have been carried out to combat seasonality in different European tourist islands. With this analysis we intend to put into practice certain knowledge acquired in the double degree of Business Administration and Management and Tourism. We have experimented with different variables such as: the correlation index and the percentage variation, that have served us to compare economic variables of the different countries with the application of policies and/or promotions. This study allows us to measure the efficiency of these policies and extrapolate the most competent ones to the Balearic Islands.

[spa] El turismo es una de las actividades económicas dominantes en el mundo. La principal actividad turística es la de sol y playa. Esta actividad es totalmente dependiente del clima, que es el principal culpable de la estacionalidad turística. El tema elegido para realizar este Trabajo de Fin de Grado es el estudio de diferentes políticas públicas y varias promociones que se han llevado a cabo para combatir contra la estacionalidad de diferentes islas turísticas europeas. Con este análisis se pretende poner en práctica determinados conocimientos adquiridos en el doble grado de Administración y Dirección de Empresas y Turismo. Hemos experimentado con diferentes variables como: el índice de correlación y la variación porcentual que nos han servido para comparar variables económicas de los diferentes países con la aplicación de las políticas y/o promociones. Este estudio permite medir la eficiencia de dichas políticas y extrapolar a las Islas Baleares las más competentes.
