Gentrificación de las ciudades: el caso de las Islas Baleares

Abstract

[spa] mayoría de ciudades del mundo, en el cual se desplazaba a los habitantes de un barrio para la llegada de nuevos residentes de clase media-alta y, por lo tanto, de mayor poder adquisitivo. Este proceso se llevaba a cabo con nuevos desarrollos inmobiliarios, como la nueva creación o mejora de infraestructuras y viviendas y el aumento de sus precios de compra o alquiler. Desde entonces han ido aumentando los estudios y trabajos sobre la gentrificación, dando paso a nuevos puntos de vista y otras evoluciones de este suceso. Hoy en día este fenómeno está muy ligado al turismo, ya que se produce con mayor frecuencia en aquellas ciudades con grandes atractivos turísticos. De aquí nace el concepto de turistificación, que se refiere a las consecuencias comerciales, sociales y urbanísticas que sufre una comunidad debido a la llegada masiva de turistas y la anteposición de cubrir sus necesidades en lugar de las necesidades de los residentes. Este trabajo analiza estos planteamientos y los ejemplifica centrándose en el caso de las Islas Baleares

[eng] Gentrification was initially a term related to the transformation of most cities in the world, in which the inhabitants of a neighborhood were displaced for the arrival of new residents of upper-middle class and, therefore, of greater purchasing power. This process was carried out with new real estate developments, such as the new creation or improvement of infrastructure and housing and the increase in their purchase or rental prices. Since then, studies and academic papers on gentrification have been increasing, giving way to new points of view and other evolutions of this event. Nowadays this phenomenon is closely linked to tourism, since it occurs more frequently in those cities with great tourist attractions. This is where the concept of touristification is born, which refers to the commercial, social and urban consequences that a community suffers due to the massive arrival of tourists and the priority of covering their needs instead of the needs of the residents. This paper analyzes these approaches and exemplifies them by focusing on the case of the Balearic Islands
