El turismo de salud en Colombia: ¿Un motor de crecimiento?

[spa] El turismo de salud tiene potencial de ser uno de los “motores de crecimiento”, en términos socioeconómicos, en Colombia. Analizamos el potencial del turismo de salud examinando, tanto la competitividad vista como: fortalezas y oportunidades en materia de profesionales, costes y entorno; como las barreras y soluciones al desarrollo de este tipo concreto de actividad turística. Posteriormente, comparamos a Colombia con otro destino puntero en turismo de salud como lo es México y finalmente investigamos el motivo de la elección de este sector y este nicho, como clave para el desarrollo del país. Todo sin olvidar el momento histórico en el que hacemos hincapié (2012-2021), caracterizado por un cambio sin precedentes de imagen exterior; y es que la seguridad turística es un factor con alto peso en la decisión de elección de un destino. En Colombia los periodos más violentos han llevado aparejada una caída en el turismo y no fue hasta la firma del Acuerdo de Paz que se plantea un nuevo escenario. En definitiva, el turismo de salud colombiano tiene alta potencialidad y prevalencia en el desarrollo socioeconómico del país. Dicho potencial puede hacerse efectivo, siempre que se superen ciertas barreras, para las cuales se trabaja activamente.

[eng] Health tourism has the potential to be one of the "driving forces of growth", in socioeconomic terms, in Colombia. We analyze the potential of health tourism by examining both the competitiveness seen as: strengths and opportunities in terms of professionals, costs, and environment; as well as the barriers and solutions to the development of this concrete type of tourism activity. Afterwards, we compare Colombia with another leading destination in health tourism such as Mexico and finally we investigate the reason for the choice of this sector and this niche as a key to the country's development. All this without forgetting the historical moment in which we emphasize (2012-2021), characterized by an unprecedented change of external image, because tourism safety is a factor with high weight in the decision-making process of choosing a destination. In Colombia, the most violent periods have led to a drop in tourism, and it was not until the signing of the Peace Agreement that a new scenario emerged. In short, Colombian health tourism has a high potential and prevalence in the socioeconomic development of the country. This potential can be effective, provided that certain barriers are overcome, which are being actively worked on.
