Economy and Ecology: a critical analysis of the current climate policy

Abstract

[eng] Anthropogenic climate change is one of the world’s most pressing environmental issues, and the governments worldwide are designing different types of policies to address the problems it is creating. However, thirty years after starting the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, emissions continue to rise. Faced with the continuous increase in emissions and the acceleration of climate change at the global level, certain voices within academia and through social movements are questioning the effectiveness of the climate policies proposed by the institutions and are offering an alternative economic system whose climate policy aims to respect the planetary limits, the ecological integrity of the planet and is committed, among other things, to a policy of economic degrowth.

[cat] El canvi climàtic antropogènic és un dels problemes ambientals més urgents del món, i els governs de tot el món estan dissenyant diferents tipus de polítiques per abordar els problemes que està creant. No obstant això, trenta anys després de l'inici de la Convenció Marc de les Nacions Unides sobre el Canvi Climàtic, les emissions continuen augmentant. Davant el continu augment de les emissions i l'acceleració del canvi climàtic a nivell mundial, certes veus dins de l'àmbit acadèmic i dels moviments socials qüestionen l'eficàcia de les polítiques climàtiques proposades per les institucions i ofereixen un sistema econòmic alternatiu la política climàtica del qual té com a objectiu respectar els límits planetaris, la integritat ecològica del planeta i aposta, entre altres coses, per una política de decreixement econòmic.
