Abstract

[spa] El caso de estudio Sol Meliá y la Ley Helms-Burton tiene como objetivo analizar la relación y las consecuencias de la Ley de Libertad y Solidaridad democrática de Cuba de 1996, también conocida como Ley Helms-Burton, con la cadena hotelera Sol Meliá, primera compañía hotelera española en establecerse en Latinoamérica y el Caribe. El caso también facilita información sobre la historia de la cadena y el por qué de su establecimiento en Cuba. Se expone además, como le afectó dicha ley en 1996, momento en que Sol Meliá empezó a cotizar en bolsa, y sobretodo, las consecuencias que ha tenido la reactivación del título III y IV de esta ley en la actualidad.

[eng] The case study Sol Meliá y la Ley Helms Burton aims to analyze the relationship and the consequences between the Cuban Liberty and Democratic Solidarity Act of 1996, also known as Helms-Burton Law, and the hotel company Sol Meliá, the first Spanish hotel company established in Latin America and the Caribbean. This case also provides information about the history of the company and why it decides to stablish in Cuba. Besides, it also exposes how this law affected in 1996, when Sol-Meliá went public, and especially, the consequences of the reactivation of the Title III and IV of this law nowadays
