[spa] Maruja Mallo es una de las artistas más destacadas de la vanguardia artística española y de la Generación del 27. En sus Verbenas plasma el Madrid de los años veinte, en el que, a través de la sátira y el humor, lleva a cabo una crítica de la sociedad. La España tradicional disfrazada de fantoches y muñecos convive con la “nueva humanidad” disfrazada de ángeles de papel y marineros heroicos. A través de su modus vivendi también reivindicará la necesidad de cambio y renovación, conformándose como un símbolo de la “mujer moderna” que reivindica su lugar en la sociedad.

[eng] Maruja Mallo is one of the most outstanding artists of the Spanish artistic avant-garde and the Generation of '27. In her Verbenas she depicts the Madrid of the 1920s, in which, through satire and humor, she criticizes society. The traditional Spain disguised as puppets and dolls coexists with the "new humanity" disguised as paper angels and heroic sailors. Through her modus vivendi she will also vindicate the need for change and renovation, becoming a symbol of the "modern woman" who claims her place in society.
