Gentrificación en las grandes ciudades: caso de Palma

Abstract

[spa] La gentrificación es el proceso de renovación urbana que implica el desplazamiento de la población original por otra de mayor poder adquisitivo. El turismo es una actividad económica importante en Mallorca, lo que ha llevado a la gentrificación del centro histórico de Palma y de los barrios afectados por el alquiler turístico, causando la pérdida de tiendas y restaurantes de toda la vida, y aumentando los precios del alquiler y de la compra de viviendas. La discusión se centra en analizar las causas y consecuencias de la gentrificación en Palma y estudiar las políticas que han surgido como consecuencia de este proceso. También se pretende analizar el descontento de los habitantes de la ciudad para llegar a un punto intermedio de satisfacción entre habitantes y turistas.

[eng] Gentrification is the process of urban renewal that involves the displacement of the original population by a more affluent one. Tourism is an important economic activity in Mallorca, which has led to the gentrification of the historic centre and neighbourhoods affected by tourist rentals, causing the loss of lifelong shops and restaurants, and increasing the prices of renting and buying homes. This thesis focuses on analysing the causes and consequences of gentrification in Palma and studying the policies that have arisen as a result of this process. It also aims to analyse the dissatisfaction of the city's inhabitants in order to reach an intermediate point of satisfaction between inhabitants and tourists.
