The Spanish Pension System and the Challenge of the Welfare State: A Critical Analysis

[eng] The pension system has become a topical issue. The objective is to provide information on the present and future problems of its sustainability. Based on an analysis of both economic and demographic variables, the main organizations with databases have been consulted to determine its viability and structure. The population is currently aging and birth rates are decreasing to worrying figures. This will have future consequences that will affect the income level and welfare status of future generations. An analysis of a database and interpretation of graphs has been established. The importance of the results is to try to obtain a medium- and long-term vision of what the situation will be for future generations.

[spa] El sistema de pensiones se ha convertido en un tema de actualidad. El objetivo es proporcionar información sobre los problemas presentes y futuros de su sostenibilidad. A partir de un análisis de variables tanto económicas como demográficas, se ha consultado a los principales organismos con bases de datos para determinar su viabilidad y estructura. Actualmente la población está envejeciendo y las tasas de natalidad están disminuyendo hasta cifras preocupantes. Esto tendrá consecuencias futuras que afectarán al nivel de renta y al estado de bienestar de las generaciones venideras. Se ha establecido el análisis de una base de datos y la interpretación de gráficos. La importancia de los resultados radica en tratar de obtener una visión a medio y largo plazo de cuál será la situación de las generaciones futuras.
