[eng] Introduction : Tendinopathy is a kind of ever-present caused by a
degenerative over usage afecting the tendon or paratendon. One of the main
tools for its treatment used for its recovery is the Intratissue Percutaneous
Electrolysis ( EPI ) in which a galvanic current is applied by using a needle
pricking the degenerated tendon directly in order to cause an inflammatory
response in the particular area with the purpose of estimulating the cicatrization
of the tendon.
Objectives : The general objective of this paper is to examine the latest
literature review which is available about EPI for the tendinopathy treatment and
to evaluate the pacients pain improvement and funcionality. In addition, this
paper aims to establish a protocol in the EPI application.
Methodology : A bibliographic research has been done in the database of
Pubmed, Cochrane, BVS and Web of Science with the combination of the key
words “Electrolysis” and “Tendinopathy”.
Results : 22 articles have been obtained for its analysis in which we can
find a huge range of interventions and parameters of EPI applications.
Conclusions : After the literature reading and its subseguent analysis, we
can notice improvements in the funcionality and pain for the pacient treated with
EPI in contrast with those not treated with this treatment. Notwithstanding, due
to the fact that we find a huge heterogeneity in interventions, lack of controlled
groups and low-quality methodology studies, it is impossible to claim that the
EPI is an effective technique for the tendinopathy treastment.
