Les murades com element per a l'evolució urbana: la Ciutat de Mallorca entre l'edat mitjana i l'edat moderna

Abstract

[cat] La Ciutat de Mallorca al llarg de l’edat mitjana i l’edat moderna va experimentar un gran nombre de canvis, pel que va ser necessari establir diferents perímetres murallístics al llarg del temps. Partirem de la murada de Madina Mayurqa que serà el tercer recinte defensiu de la ciutat, on posteriorment es traçaran el quart i cinquè recinte. Posteriorment, la murada musulmana serà acollida per a la civilització cristiana arrel de la conquesta al 1229, on enlloc de projectar una nova murada, es faran adobs a la murada ja preexistent. Al segle XVI Giovan Giacomo Palearo “Fratino” projectarà un nou sistema defensiu arrel de les innovacions de la poliorcètica amb les armes pirobalístiques com també com a conseqüència dels múltiples conflictes bèl·lics a la Mar Mediterrània.

[eng] The city of Mallorca throughout the Middle Ages and the early modern period experienced a great number of changes, so it was necessary to establish different defensive perimeters over time. We will start with the walls of Madina Mayurqa, which will be the third defensive enclosure of the city, where later the fourth and fifth enclosures will be traced on top of it. Initially, the Muslim walls will be embraced by the Christian civilization following the conquest in 1229, where instead of projecting a new wall, repairs will be made to the existing one. In the 16th century, Giovan Giacomo Palearo "Fratino" will design a new defensive system following the innovations in siege warfare with pyrobalistic weapons, as well as due to the multiple military conflicts in the Mediterranean Sea.
