Indians i tarongers: l'emigració sollerica entre 1910 i 1920

[cat] Entre 1860 i 1930 es poden comptar per milers els sollerics que varen partir a la recerca d’una vida millor. La majoria varen mantenir una fort lligam amb el poble que els va veure partir a través del setmanari Sóller. Molts d’ells tornaran enriquits i transformaran econòmica i socialment Sóller. La majoria es dedicaren al comerç i la restauració, obrint nombroses botigues i restaurants per tota França que abastien amb productes mallorquins a través del Port de Sóller. La Primera Guerra Mundial trastocarà la vida dels sollerics i l’economia de Sóller quedant gravada en la premsa i la memòria local.

[eng] Between 1860 and 1930, thousands of people from Sóller left in search of a better life. Most of them maintained a strong bond with the town that saw them leave through the Sóller newspaper. Many of them will return enriched and transform Sóller economically and socially. Most of them were dedicated to trade and catering, setting up numerous shops and restaurants throughout France that were supplied with Mallorcan products through the Port de Sóller. The First World War will disrupt the life of the Sóller people and its economy, remaining on the press and local memory for a long time.
