[eng] This project, conducted in partnership with ICTS SOCIB
(Balearic Islands Coastal Observing and Forecasting System),
investigates the potential of blockchain technology to enhance
traceability in the management of oceanographic datasets.
The study involved a structured project progression including a literature review, system design and implementation,
culminating in the selection of Hyperledger Fabric as the
most suitable blockchain system for SOCIB’s use cases. The
system, named SOCIB FabricTrace, leverages the immutable,
transparent nature and decentralized consensus of blockchain
technology to transform data recording, usage and verification
procedures. These features aim to enhance trust, interoperability and sustainability within the field. This thesis discusses
SOCIB FabricTrace’s application, its potential benefits and the
challenges encountered. Despite these challenges, the project
underscores the platform’s promise for future developments
aimed at transparent, accountable and reliable data management across various domains.
