[eng] This paper aims at investigating about the status of English as a Lingua Franca in the
teaching field and at offering a teaching proposal that integrates this concept, which
has become a global phenomenon in the everyday linguistic environment. While there
is extensive research on the topic, there is a scarcity of materials for its successful
implementation in English Language Teaching contexts. A limited number of textbooks
provide explicit resources with non-native English speakers for secondary education.
A preliminary study with the English, Spanish and Catalan departments in the IES
Damià Huguet high school will be conducted to analyze their perceptions on this matter
in addition to asking for the opinions of the students through Google Forms. The
didactic proposal of this article will be centered on addressing the gap of materials by
creating English as a Lingua Franca-centered ones and on contributing to an
improvement in the English as a Foreign Language methodology in eleventh grade. A
more inclusive and holistic approach will be suggested through a series of activities
focused on the listening and speaking skills, in the form of regular classroom activities
and unit projects, which will serve to facilitate critical language awareness and
intercultural communication among the students. In addition, different assessment
tools will be provided together with these resources to facilitate their implementation.
All the materials will be designed according to the topics of the thematic units from the
Synchronize 5 textbook that is used in first of baccalaureate
