Health tourism in the Balearic Islands

Abstract

El siguiente trabajo pretende analizar el turismo s anitario en las Islas Baleares, dar a c onocer su potencial, así como t ambién averiguar las causas que hacen difícil el desarrollo de este tipo de turismo en las islas .Además, desarrollaremos un paquete turístico que se podría llevar a cabo para beneficiar a los diferentes agentes sumergid os en el mundo del turismo y que podría dar lugar a la desestacionalización de las islas. En la primera parte del trabajo se profundiza en la definición, origen y perfil d el turista sanitario en el archipiélago balear . En la segunda parte del trabajo analizarem os el posible número de turistas que vienen a Baleares a tratarse , tanto desde el punto de vista médico como desde el punto de vista wellness. Para ello, utilizaremos gráficos y tablas que nos ayudarán a entender la evolución de este concepto en las islas. Además, desarrollaremos un análisis de los puntos fuertes y débiles de este tipo de turismo. Por último, en la tercera p arte, se tratará n de analizar dos posibles productos o tratamientos que se podrían ofrecer en las islas, los chequeos médicos y la diet a mediterránea, que podrían dar lugar a grandes beneficios económicos en el futuro

The following project aims to analyze health tourism o n the Balearic Islands, to raise people’s awareness about its potential, as well as to find out the cau ses which hinder the development of this type of tourism on the islands. Furthermore, a health tourism package tour will be created. It could properly be sold in order to benefit many of the agents involved in the tourism sector a nd give rise to the deseas onaliz ation of the islands. In the first part of the project, we will focus on the definition, background and profile of the health tourist on the islands. In the second part , we analyze the possible number of tourists who do come to the islands in order t o undergo treatment, both from a medical and a wellness point of view. To this end, different graphics and tables will be used. They will help us understand the evolution of health tourism on the islands. In addition to this, an analysis of the strongest a nd weakest points of this type of tourism is conducted. Finally, in the third part, we will seek to analyze two possible products or treatments which could be provided on the islands, the medical checkups and the Mediterranean diet, which could realize eco nomic benefits in the long - term
