[eng] Reading is a fundamental pillar in today's education and, therefore, it is important to work on
it from the earliest ages in order to promote the reading habit and the students' taste for
reading. To achieve this, it is essential to have school libraries and classroom libraries of
quality, as well as a center project for the promotion of reading. For this reason, this paper
aims to describe the concepts of school library and classroom library; to delve into the
characteristics of both spaces taking into account aspects such as users, organization,
space and documentary collection; to develop their functions; and to reflect on the
importance of the involvement of all educational and non-educational agents in this process.
Next, the organization and functioning of the school library of a primary school is described
and analyzed, as well as the proposals carried out to promote reading among students.
Finally, the shortcomings detected in these aspects are explained, from which a series of
improvement proposals are designed in order to alleviate these limitations, based on an
extensive documentary research.
