El convent de Sant Francesc d'Assís de Palma. Diagnòstic i potencialitats del seu valor patrimonial

[cat] El conjunt format per l’església, el claustre i el convent de Sant Francesc d’Assís de Palma és un dels monuments religiosos més importants de les Illes Balears. Des del seu establiment a Mallorca, a l’Edat Mitjana, l’orde franciscà, i principalment la seva casa mare ubicada en la ciutat de Palma, ha exercit una influència notable en la societat i la cultura de l’illa. Les sinèrgies que els franciscans establiren, des d’un primer moment, amb la societat mallorquina, varen convertir el convent de Palma en dipositari d’uns valors socioculturals d’una importància capital. Per aquest motiu, el seu estudi es fa imprescindible per tal de comprendre una part important de la nostra història. Durant segles, i, sobretot gràcies al fet que els franciscans gaudiren del favor de la monarquia i la noblesa, aquests varen poder reunir un important patrimoni, tant immoble com moble, que ha estat transformat al llarg de set segles. Els canvis de gustos motivats per l’arribada de la influència dels diferents estils artístics, els canvis devocionals i el curs dels propis esdeveniments històrics constituïren els factors que, en el transcurs dels anys, anaren transformant el patrimoni cultural dels franciscans de Palma fins arribar a configurar el conjunt que podem admirar a dia d’avui.

Tot i que aquest patrimoni ha estat objecte d’alguns estudis, mancava per fer una investigació que tractàs el tema amb més profunditat i n’elaboràs un estat de la qüestió actualitzat. En aquesta tesi hem volgut abastir tant l’estudi del patrimoni immoble com del patrimoni moble des d’una òptica interdisciplinària. L’eix vertebrador d’aquesta recerca ha estat la documentació de tot aquest patrimoni mitjançant la recopilació i anàlisi de les dades aportades per la documentació bibliogràfica, i les fonts arxivístiques i gràfiques. D’altra banda, s’ha realitzat un treball de camp exhaustiu per tal de documentar i estudiar les fonts materials conservades. Aquest treball de camp també ha tengut en compte aquell patrimoni que, originalment ubicat en el convent franciscà, es troba actualment, per algun motiu, dispers en altres localitzacions. Tenint tot això en consideració, l’objectiu principal d’aquesta tesi és diagnosticar l’estat de conservació actual del patrimoni cultural del convent de Sant Francesc d’Assís de Palma i la seva traçabilitat històrica, entesa com l’evolució d’aquest patrimoni fins al moment present.

Desde su establecimiento en Mallorca, en la Edad Media, la orden franciscana, y principalmente su casa madre ubicada en la ciudad de Palma, ha ejercido una influencia notable en la sociedad y la cultura de la isla. Las sinergias que los franciscanos establecieron, desde un primer momento, con la sociedad mallorquina convirtieron el convento de Palma en depositario de unos valores socioculturales de importancia capital. Por este motivo, su estudio se convierte en imprescindible para comprender una parte importante de nuestra historia. Durante siglos, y, sobre todo gracias a que los franciscanos gozaron del favor de la monarquía y la nobleza, éstos pudieron reunir un importante patrimonio, tanto inmueble como mueble, que se ha ido transformando a lo largo de siete siglos. Los cambios devocionales y de gusto por la llegada de la influencia de los diferentes estilos artísticos, así como el curso de los propios eventos históricos constituyeron los factores que, en el transcurso de los años, han ido transformando el patrimonio cultural de los franciscanos de Palma hasta llegar a configurar el conjunto que podemos admirar hoy en día.

A pesar de que este patrimonio ha sido objeto de algunos estudios, faltaba por hacer una investigación que tratase el tema con mayor profundidad y elaborara un estado de la cuestión actualizado. En este ensayo hemos querido abarcar tanto el estudio del patrimonio inmueble como del patrimonio mueble. El eje vertebrador de esta investigación ha sido la documentación de todo este patrimonio mediante la recopilación y análisis de los datos aportados por la documentación bibliográfica y las fuentes archivísticas y gráficas. Por otro lado, se ha llevado a cabo un exhaustivo trabajo de campo para documentar y estudiar las fuentes materiales conservadas. Este trabajo también ha tenido en consideración aquel patrimonio que, originalmente ubicado en el convento franciscano, se encuentra actualmente, por algún motivo, disperso en otras localizaciones. Teniendo todo esto en consideración, el objetivo principal de esta tesis es diagnosticar el estado de conservación actual del patrimonio cultural del convento de Sant Francesc de Asís de Palma y su trazabilidad histórica, entendida como la evolución de este patrimonio hasta el momento presente.

[eng] The complex formed by the church, the cloister and the convent of Saint Francis of Assisi in Palma is one of the most important religious monuments in the Balearic Islands. Since its establishment in Mallorca, in the Middle Ages, the franciscan order, and mainly its mother house located in the town of Palma, has exercised a notable influence on the society and culture of the island. From the very beginning, the synergies that the franciscans created with Majorcan society turned the Palma convent into a repository of socio-cultural values of paramount importance. For this reason, the study of the cultural heritage of the convent becomes essential to understand an important part of our history. From the thirteenth century, above all thanks to the fact that the franciscans enjoyed the favour of the monarchy and the nobility, the franciscan community of Palma was able to gather an important patrimony, both immovable and movable, which has been transformed over seven centuries. The influence of different artistic styles, the changes in the devotional practices and the course of historical events themselves constituted the factors that have been shaping the cultural heritage of the Franciscans of Palma until reaching the configuration that we can admire today.

Even though this heritage has been the subject of some studies, it lacks a thorough investigation that deals with the subject in more depth and elaborates an updated status of the issue. In this essay we would like to cover both the study of the immovable heritage and the movable heritage from an interdisciplinary point of view. The backbone of this research has been the documentation of all this heritage through the collection and analysis of data provided by the bibliographical and graphical documentation as well as the information found in different archives. On the other hand, exhaustive field work has been carried out to document and study of the preserved material sources. This field work has also taken into consideration the heritage that, originally located in the franciscan convent, it is currently, for some reason, dispersed in other locations. Taking all these aspects into consideration, the main objective of this thesis is to diagnose the current state of conservation of the cultural heritage of the convent of Saint Francis of Assisi in Palma and its historical outlining, this is, the evolution of this heritage to the present day.
