[eng] In this article, I analyze the origin and mechanisms of disseminating a rumor
related to some ‘new’ and ‘dangerous’ ways of drinking alcohol, such as eyeballing and
tampodka. This rumor arose in the catalan and Spanish media in 2013. Within the framework
of folk genre and system theory, I suggest that, due to its conversational nature, the rumor
genre is particularly suitable for suggesting meta-realities where one is able to transfer and
project socially contentious or controversial aspects that a community or a small group
perceives as abominable or potentially threatening.
