dc.description.abstract |
[eng] According to Marte Brill, her novel Der Schmelztiegel is "an encrypted autobiography". Yet, Der Schmelztiegel is also fiction, as it composes an ideal that exists only in her imagination. The author describes Brazil, then under the dictatorship of Getúlio Vargas, as a utopian world. an alternative to what she left behind in Germany. The present article investigates the literary progression in Der Schmelztiegel, starting from the description of historical facts and events and continuing to immerse the reader into the authors' personal perceptions and perspectives toward these events, leading to a utopian view of reality. In this novel, imaginary blurs the boundaries between utopia and autobiography. |
